One-to-One and Mentoring

Firstly a few questions answered

  • Often when we first start yoga we get a sense of how powerful the practice is and how beneficial it could be. We can see that if we stick with it we may get incredible physical and psychological benefit, but then at some point natural enthusiasm may wane and the honeymoon period comes to an end. And it starts to take a bit more conscious effort, motivation and stamina to carry on.

We may have a session or two where we feel resistant and tired, we might find difficult feelings arising, we may become more aware of our relationship with our body. As the process of self awareness gets a bit deeper it may become more challenging to show up to the mat and easier to choose a night in front of the TV. Please don’t get me wrong. Some times it is the absolute right decision to skip yoga and have a night in front of the telly. But when you drop the practice completely whilst still yearning for yoga maybe this is the point where we could do with some support…

In my own 30 year yoga journey these were the times I completely drifted away from the practice and I really wish that at the time I had closer support to talk through the barriers, obstacles and difficulties that where creating conflict. I wish I’d had someone to help me plan my journey through rather than out.

  • So what yoga mentoring is will definitely vary from yoga teacher to yoga teacher.

When I offer yoga mentoring I am offering supportive communication and a fellow yogi to walk the path alongside.

Using my training, knowledge and love of yoga as well as my own experience of the ups and downs of a long term practice we will work together in partnership to address any obstacles that may be coming up and impacting your practice and your life.

Obstacles may be internal such as low motivation, emotional overwhelm, lack of energy, aches and pains, injury, difficult feelings, a challenging relationship with our body, low self-esteem and lack of self worth, or may be external, such as children, business, work demands etc.

Through simple patience, belief in yoga, intuition, creative thinking, tons of empathy, patience and problem solving we will explore together to work out the path ‘through’, rather than jumping straight to the path out, to develop the yoga practice you actually dream of.

  • Really it is just a matter of focus and I very much combine the two. One-to-one sessions without mentoring will be focussed solely on the practice itself, so whether you have chosen one-to-one focus on Asana (yoga poses), Pranayama Yogic Breath Work, Relaxation and Meditation, our 1hr session together will be practice based. In a mentoring session we will focus on both practice but also lots of communication, empathy, problem solving together, setting realistic goals and working towards your ideal relationship with your practice whilst being willing to tackle the bumps along the way. The ideal combo would be a combination of practice and mentoring when it is needed

Small Group Mentoring Intensives

These 4-week, mentoring intensives are for a minimum of 3 and a maximum of 8-students. I will be running Fat Positiv, EVERY BODY and Body Positive groups. They are for students who want to deep dive into their practice with a small consistent group of peers.

One-to-One Yoga Class Bundles

For extra support and closer personal attention, one-to one yoga classes are a way to really make sure that your individual needs are being met. Private yoga sessions work especially well for those of you who need to move at a different pace for whatever your reason than you find possible in the group class. These sessions can be weekly, monthly or ad-hoc to suit you and are very flexible.

One to One Pranayama, Relaxation and Meditation

Online and/or in-person

We think of one-to-one sessions as needing to be highly active to be worthwhile, but what if you set time and money aside for deep guided rest? How might that affect your sense of self and peace of mind? Your ability to problem solve and tackle life’s challenges? How would it feel to spend time being encouraged to explore resting? To focus simply on breathing, relaxation, restorative posture, and meditation?

I offer one-to-one yogic breathing, relaxation and meditation guided sessions.

Pregnancy one-to one sessions

In these trimester appropriate private yoga sessions we will explore classical hatha yoga taught in the Sivananda tradition. We will adapt this profound and ancient, classical yoga sequence to work for your pregnant body. We will explore adapted breathing exercises (pranayama), supported yoga poses (asana), deep relaxation and meditation.

These sessions are for all pregnant folks, and I particularly welcome you if you are fat, gender non-conforming, trans and/or non binary. It is my commitment to work with gender neutral language and ZERO weight loss talk or anti-fat bias. These one-to-one sessions are for people who are new to yoga, as much as they are for experienced practitioners.
