Welcome to self-practice

Body doubling yoga at Light Yoga Space

These body-doubling self practice sessions offer a quiet shared space in which to be 100% present with yourself.

What is Body Doubling?

Body doubling is the practice of doing something, in our case our yoga practice, in the quiet presence of others. Knowing someone else will be present can help shift blocks that stop us from showing up for ourselves. Our body doubling sessions are exactly this. We will be together in the same online zoom space, but each person will be busy doing their own yoga practice. In simply knowing we are there together is where the magic happens. Camera on or off is up to you and you only need stay as long as feels good. A 5 minute practice is still a practice. Body doubling is particularly useful for neurodivergent people and absolutely everyone can benefit from and enjoy these sessions.

What is Self-Practice

Self-practice simply means leading your own practice. I don’t lead or teach these sessions, I am present but am actually engaged in my own self-practice as well. Virtual online self practice is a wonderful way of being inspired to practice by the presence of others, yet still have as much privacy and personal space as you need. You will simply be showing up for your own body, and carving out a little dedicated time and space to connect with yourself.

This is how it works:

  • I will be in the zoom and on my yoga mat for my own self-practice at these start times.

Monday evenings 6:00 p.m

Tuesday evenings 6:00 p.m.

Wednesdays evenings 7:00 p.m.

Thursday mornings 11:30 a.m.

Friday mornings 11:30 a.m.

Note: times will be different during term breaks, April, August and December so always check the timetable before coming along

  • You are welcome to come ad-hoc as and when you want to, and do not need to commit to coming every day

  • You can arrive whenever you want and stay for as little or as long as you need. A 5 minute practice is still a practice

  • You can have your camera on or off it is up to you.

  • Everyone is muted on arrival. This means you can listen to music, talk to yourself, f**t if you need to and generally not have to worry about anyone hearing you

  • I will just be doing what I can manage. Sometimes when I’m fatigued I may do not much more than lie down on my mat for half an hour. If you have more energy and less pain than me (highly likely) you are invited to follow your own energy and pace

  • For me this is a gentle, rehabilitative space. My overall commitment is to healing my nervous system and being connected. In the same vein you are encouraged to really tune in and listen to what you need in each practice and to try not to be distracted by what anyone else is or isn’t doing

  • That said if you feel really dynamic one day, then do your thing and enjoy

  • This is a judgment free zone
