Body Positive Yoga
These Body Positive Yoga classes are for EVERY BODY
The term Body Positive originated with the fat acceptance movement to empower folks to reject fat phobia and diet culture and to educate society about fatness. That fat people exist and that we deserve acceptance, respect, protection, rights, adequate healthcare, employment fairness, positive representation, just as we are.
The term Body Positive has been co-opted by straight sized communities who battle with self esteem and body image issues despite not actually being fat and the message of fat rights has somehow been lost to the point where fat people can still feel alienated and unwelcome in body positive spaces.
We have reclaimed the name for these classes and still open them to EVERY BODY so that we can work together in a space that is openly and overtly Fat Accepting. The teacher is medium fat. We especially welcome folks in all marginalised bodies, fat bodies, super fat bodies, infinifat bodies, queer, trans and gender non conforming bodies, Black and Brown bodies, older bodies, disabled bodies and everyone who feels more comfortable in body diverse spaces. You don’t have to be fat to come but you do have to be fat friendly.
Inundated with images of thin, bendy, white women practising yoga you might have long ago, unconsciously decided that yoga isn’t for you, that you aren’t ‘bendy/thin/fit/young/white/add your own adjective ‘enough’ to attend classes. These classes ARE for you. We will explore accessible adaptations and variations of the classical yoga poses taking your body into consideration, and these in-person classes will be kept small and led at a slow and inclusive pace.
